I was standing in a packed subway and the lights went out. We were not in the station. We were led to get off the front of the train and walk along the tracks by people holding flashlights. When we go to the street the litter baskets were on fire. I thought it was another riot. I asked a policeman to help me get to the Bronx. He sat me in his patrol car and found a cabbie who was taking his wife to visit her mother in Flower 5th Ave Hospital. He promised to drive me to the Bronx after he dropped her off and he did! I was lucky to be helped by 2 good samaratans that night. I think the cop could tell I was scared to death.
