Interesting that each story so far is about the IRT. Around 1975 or so, I was returning from a job interview downtown. I was on the #5 line headed to Allerton Avenue. At 125th Street, someone fell off the platform and my train ran over the poor person. Pandemonium with all the first responders and Transit Authority staff trying to deal with the emergency. Everyone got off the train and I figured it would be several hours at minimum before service on that track would be restored. But I knew enough to simply hop on the uptown #6 Pelham Bay line across the platform, took it to Westchester Square and, for an extra fare, got on the #8 bus which dropped me off 2 blocks from home. Never did see or read about the incident. Maybe too common?
