Did You Go To A Carnival In Your Neighborhood?

During the summers of my growing up years of the 1940s and early 50s, I always looked forward to walking from my Cruger Avenue home to the big carnival that was set up all over the huge empty lot which stretched widely around the southeast corner of Gun Hill Road and White Plains Road. The carnival was sponsored by The Immaculate Conception Church on Gun Hill Road, adjacent to that very large lot. It had all the standard rides and attractions, including a Ferris Wheel, Merry-Go- Round, Whip and my favorite ride...the Tilt-A Whirl. Todays`s Gun Hill Houses completely occupy that lot and the site of that unforgettable carnival.

Do you remember going to a carnival not far from your home? If so, where was it located? Any carnival memories to share with us?
