Saul, your experience is vastly different from that of my in-laws, who lived there from 1970 until 1989. The tower buildings were falling apart after 5 years and repairs and construction were never-ending. It seemed that at least 1 of the 3 elevators failed every other week and waiting for them was interminable. The midway grass was off-limits due to flooding. Break-ins in the garages was common. A/C was spotty at best, and the windows were faulty, letting in cold air in the winter. My mother-in-law had her handbag and groceries stolen by a gang of teens one evening. Essentially, the bad neighborhood they thought they had escaped by moving from the south Bronx to Co-Op City just followed them.
