John...Was Allerton Avenue also your home station? The entire east side of the apartment building which stretched around the southwest corner of Allerton Avenue and White Plains Road, was completely parallel to the end of the downtown outside platform of the station. When time permitted, I often waited for the train on that platform so that I could get into the first car. While waiting for the train, the view looking toward the east and south from there, was very "open" and I could see so much of my neighborhood; however, the view to the west was nothing but a "long wall" of an apartment building with lots of windows to look at! I admit that I may have exaggerated in my describing that building as being "extremely close" to the station`s platform, but it was close enough for me to feel that I would be tempted to stretch out my hand to touch it high over the sidewalk below which separated us.
