Not far. Growing up, we lived on 182nd and Morris. We had a Grocery Store, later Bodega on Morris, between 181st and 182nd. The grocery store that we most often frequented was Ed-Hy Grocers on 183rd, between Morris and Creston.
At some point, an A&P opened on the NE corner of 183rd and Morris, and there was a Grand Union on 183rd and Jerome. There was probably a grocery on 181st too, can't remember for sure. Lots of stores in my neighborhood: Bakeries, butchers, Delis, pizza, toys, etc.
