Yes, they watched over us as my friends and I played ball on the corner of East 175th Street and Clay Avenue. They sat on folding chairs by their building - 305 East 175th Street and spoke mostly in Yiddish. I distinctly remember one lady's face. One time, as I walked home to my house on Anthony Avenue she said to her neighbor in English "He's such a nice boy" (LOL).

Their building and the one next to it are long gone and replaced by a office building run by the city. I lived in a 3 family private house on Anthony until 1955 when it, and the one next to it were sold by the owner, torn down and replaced with an apartment building which is still there.
