Kevin.. you might very well be one of the few people who post on this Board who could say that his or her grandfather was born and grew up in The Bronx, years before 1898 when it was known as "The Great North Side"! My Bronx grandparents were all born in Europe except my paternal grandmother who was born on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in 1882. She was a Manhattanite for her first 33 years until 1915 when she became a Bronxite for her second 33 years. She passed away in The Bronx at the Daughters of Jacob Home in 1948 at the age of 66.
