During my growing up years of the 1940s, I had many visits to my maternal grandparents who lived on Monticello Avenue in the remote Edenwald neighborhood of the far north Bronx, a few blocks south of the Mount Vernon border. My grandfather built two 3-family attached homes during the mid-1920s and lived in one of those homes. My earliest years growing up in a two family house on Cruger Avenue where the entire block had only two family homes with just one apartment building on the corner seemed "crowded" compared to the "hinterland" of northern Edenwald! There was so much space or empty lots between each house on Monticello Avenue. My grandparents had an apple tree in their huge backyard. It was really like going to the country. Even today, while all the spaces have been taken up by newer one and two family homes, Monticello Avenue (between East 233rd Street and Strang Avenue (up the hill from Seton Falls Park) still retains its "country feel". Thank you so much, Mary, for responding. It brought back memories for me!
All the best!
