Yes John, I was waiting for someone to give the recipe for the zip gun. To this day, I believe a lot of car owners never could understand why their car antennas had been ripped off. My understanding is that these guns might just as easily have blown up in the shooter's face as actually propelled a "bullet". I was more interested in your recipe for "black powder". Saltpeter, by the way was potassium nitrate. A chemistry teacher at Stuyvesant whom I will never forget (Mr. Blue) taught us a way to remember how to spell potassium (it has one pot and one ass). We used to mix the stuff up in chemistry lab and put it into gelatin capsules with a few ball bearings for weight. Weh we took the Third Avenue L home to the Bronx, we tried to get on the ancient "cow catcher" trains with open platforms between the cars. When these loaded capsules were thrown out, they exploded when they hit the ground. I hope that the statute of limitations is over for this.
