If memory still serves me rightly, the popular outdoor games in the '50s included what we called "Cops and Robbers" which supplanted the popular '40s outdoor game called "Cowboys and Indians". At least in my neighborhood, that's how it was. And in those days, the movies portrayed mostly that sort of activity. And, of course, war pictures And I recall there being lots of water pistols and cap guns.
