If not for the Cross-Bronx Expressway, Co-op City, etc., the Bronx would have changed and people would still have moved but it would have been a much slower process, not 5 or 10 years but maybe 20-25 years. The '60s was a time of prosperity, and even without Co-op City a lot of people were moving to places like Fort Lee, Lefrak City, Riverdale (yes, still in the Bronx, but seemed separate). For one thing, however, the Concourse would have continued as a "fancy street" for a lot longer. The really old, rundown neighborhoods, say below 149th St. or so, would have deteriorated no matter what.
