I referred to the Bronx side of the Whitestone Bridge, and should have mentioned the Pelham Bay area as well as the Clason Point area. They were pretty much residential areas, lots of private homes on small lots, but not really "citified" in my experience. When I would go down to l49th St. & 3rd Avenue with its huge shopping opportunities, traffic and people and apartment houses, I felt as though I had traveled to a different world from where I lived out in the "boondocks" of the Bronx. Never was a city girl.
