Hi Melanie! I used to tap into the Bronx Board on a daily basis but now it's down to about once a month. I grew up on St. Peters Ave and then Frisby Ave. Went to PS 12, JHS 127 and Columbus HS. You would not recognize Westchester Square. It has changed tremendously. What was the Square Movie, is now a Walgreens. Woolworth's has been replaced with a big ABC Store. They carry clothes and household items. Their business is brisk. Simelson's Pharmacy has moved to the other side of Tremont Ave. The supermarket, which was A&P, is still there by is now a Key Food.

St. Peter's Church's cemetery has been bought out and a multi-story apartment is to be built there. There is a big concern about a big "affortable" apartment building to be built on Blondell Ave., which is a commercial area. From what I've read, it was voted down by the community board but the powers that be, have approved it.

I do not believe we're permitted to give links. However, if you would be interested, google The Bronx Times Reporter ... bxtimes dot com. At the top of the page, click on to "The Newsstand" which will bring up the community newspaper. Select the one covering Throggs Neck, Pelham Bay, Westchester Square, etc.
