Are you kidding? I lived off of Castle Hill Ave, at Lafayette Ave. and the planes from LaGuardia and Idlewild (JFK) were flying every day over our neighborhood, low takeoffs and landings all the week long. It got so you became adjusted to the sound and eventually became unaware of it. During the war, there were searchlights scanning the skies at night to brighten up the area, but sort of scary at the same time, because of what they really meant --- safeguard for all against enemy airplanes attacking.
