Probably didn’t realize it then but BELMONT was a great place to born and raised (1939 – 54)……………a mix of private homes and apartment buildings…4 schools in walking distance…PS 74…JHS 45…Roosevelt HS…Mt. Carmel Church & School…..Fresh bread, pastry, meat, produce and even live chickens…..many pizzerias & Italian restaurants and deli’s..…a playground..…huge PS 45 field (softball, stickball, handball)..…our own movie theatre, Cinelli’s Savoy, better known as “The Dumps”…..walk to Fordham Rd (shopping & movies)….. the 3rd Ave. Ell…..Bronx Zoo & Botanical Gardens…Howard Johnsons….Fordham University…Fordham Hospital.
