For the first 11 years of my life, I lived on Hoe Ave. & 174th St. When I moved to Sedgwick Ave., near Kingsbridge Road, I thought I had died and gone to heaven because the building had plants in the courtyard and outside and the streets in the neighborhood all had trees. The greenery made all the difference in the world.

Then I found friends and a lamppost to hang out under on 197th St. & Claflin Ave. And, my friends and I could and did walk to Fordham Road and have sundaes at Krum's and see a movie at the beautiful Loew's Paradise and a foreign film at the Ascot.

In the summer, we could take the 20 bus to the 12 to Orchard Beach and hang around Beach 10 at the pole.

If you ask me, I came from the best neighborhood. Or, put another way, who could ask for anything more?
