I think that the multitude of trees, shrubs and other plantings were one of the best aspects of living in Parkchester. The changes in the trees over the years marked the changes in the seasons so vividly for a young person observing all this. Very careful planning went into all this landscaping and you could tell that when Parkchester was first built, the mature trees already on the site of the former Catholic Protectory were left to stand, instead of everything being leveled as is often the case today in 'planned' communities.
