My grandfather was a subway conductor. He lived halfway down my street - Clay Avenue. He always used to take me places in NYC via the subway using his pass as a retiree. I was small and he just ushered me through the gate with him. My mother had told me a story of a woman jumping in front of his train....
My uncle, who lived further down Clay Avenue was a bus driver. He drove the route along the Concourse. When my aunt would go to Fordham Road, she would time her arrival on the Concourse to coincide with his scheduled arrival at 169th Street.
