The Bronx River is the geographical dividing line between East and West Bronx. If you lived east of Jerome Avenue, yet west of the Bronx River, you actually lived in the East and West Bronx AT THE SAME TIME! Although Jerome Avenue is, indeed, the official East-West Bronx divider, if you look at a street map of the entire Bronx, you will notice that there is much MORE land EAST of Jerome Avenue, and LESS land WEST of Jerome Avenue. The Bronx River, running north-south through the approximate center of The Bronx has always been, historically, the East West divider. In other words, there is a lot more West Bronx that has been geographically "short-changed".
