I believe I've figured out what you saw in that map drawing.

REMEMBERING, maps like those ARE NOT drawn to scale.

BRUCKNER BLVD ends at the last stop of the #6 IRT train.
If you continue going straight from this point you're either forced onto
IS-95 going north or onto the end of PELHAM PKWAY heading towards City Island.

Instead of turning right to go to City Island on City Island Road you continue going straight on Shore Rd you eventually get into Westchester County along Pelham Road which ultimately leads into New Rochelle with a different name. There are NO TURNS to make the entire way which is why it appeared that Eastern Parkway [back in those days] led to New Rochelle

My wife and I travel along most of this path at least twice a month.
