Westchester Creek

Not many in the BX paid attention to this little waterway that went from the Long Island Sound up into Westchester County. We crossed the little bridge for 6 years going to St Helena's. The draw bridge occasionally caught us and held up traffic. My late friend, Bill Heller, and I use to swim there. He was very daring in many ways. Took off his bathing suit, stood on the railing and dove into the water from the bridge. I only jumped with my suit on. Though we did see a few big rats scurrying under the decaying dock we climbed up to, they never bothered us. A St Helena Brother, Christopher, came by and saw Bill doing his thing. He said "You're either very brave or very stupid" and he walked off.
