Oh those beautiful sunlit days when Mom, Nonna, Sis and I would go to Mass and then grab a bite to eat (usually pastry, LOL) and then walk to the Botanical gardens -- whether the sun was out of not our hearts were happy. Such simple beautiful pleasures. I loved visiting the garden plot for the visually handicapped patrons and "reading" the Braille inscriptions -- this was way back in the 50's and I thought it was such a beautiful outreach. Nonno (grandpa) Giuseppe LOVED the Conservatory and I have a photo of him, taken not long before he died (1931, way before Ace landed on Earth)- he is sitting on the steps, wearing a neatly pressed suit - his gaunt face is framed by the beautiful conservatory behind him. I like to think he was with us when we went on our walks so many years after he died.
Sometimes my birthday falls on Mother's Day. I used to joke with Mom Sylvia about this, but she would say that "Every Birthday of yours is Mother's Day."
BEST wishes to All the Moms, Grandmothers, Surrogate mothers, Cat Moms and all -- HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!
