The theater, on Jerome Avenue, was named after David Marcus who graduated West Point,Brooklyn Law School and served in World War 2.
After graduating Law School, he served as Asst. U.S. Attorney in NYC and was then appointed by Mayor LaGuardia as head of the NYC Department of Corrections. After Dec 7th,in the military, he organized and commanded a Ranger Combat Training School. He was then assigned to Civilian Affairs Division which planned for occupation governments in territories liberated from the Axis. He attended the conferences at Cairo, Teheran, Yalta and Potsdam. He helped draw up the 1943 surrender terms for Italy.In 1944, having been a classmate of General Maxwell Taylor at West Point, he got himself into the 101st Airborne and parachuted into Normandy on D-Day.
After V-E General Lucius Clay asked him to be on his staff in the occupation of Germany in charge of providing for Displaced Persons. In 1946 he was the Chief of Army's War Crimes Division planning for the Nuremburg Trials and the Tokyo War Crimes Tribunal. He was offered a promotion to Brigadier General but decided to return to civilian life and law.in 1948, the War Dept agreed to let him become an advisor to the Haganah, Israel's fledgling army.
He is interred in West Point Cemetery at the United States Military Academy.
