Living three blocks from the Boston Road entrance to the Bronx Zoo, it was my job to get rid of ALL the bread we had in our apartment. My mother would but the bread into a large brown paper bag and I went off to eat it to the elephants in the zoo. I can remember that each year I did this there were at least five to six other kids doing the same thing with their parents watching. I was about seven the first time I did this.

There was no one stopping anyone from feeding the elephants back then
