I had a curious experience. In 1951 I had a 4-D exemption as a seminarian and a week after I quit that line of work, I got my 1A notice...but I had already applied for Navy OCS. I met with the Board on Arthur Avenue, explained the situation and they gave me time to hear from the Navy. Fully five years later, I was a Navy pilot in the Med when I got a letter just as described with the same token in it. My CO and I discussed sending a snotty reply but he penned a short note telling them I was needed where I was and that was the end of it.
