I felt safe too, in the Pelham Bay section when I lived there from 1978-1980. I remember the parish priest/pastor saying he was raised in east harlem. He said all the young men either went into the priesthood or jail. Mario Biaggi - a sad story. He was so good for the people in the BX. My mom cried when he went to jail.
