My mother did most of her food shopping at stores on East Tremont Avenue between the Grand Concourse and Anthony Avenue. There was a separate store for everything, Hausner's Meat Market, Dick's German Delicatessen, Marigold's Bakery, a fish store, a vegetable store, and a Chinese restaurant where I often went for "take out". Just off Tremont, was a Peter Reeves store on Anthony Avenue across from PS 28.

In the early 1960's, a new store opened on Tremont called the "Food Cart". It was similar to Peter Reeves. One time, the "D" fell off the sign above the entrance - we thought it had changed into a Chinese restaurant (lol).
