terraces in apt buildings

To all:

Since I brought up this in response to another thread, but no one picked up on it, I'll pose the idea again.

I grew up in the Marble Hill projects. Back around '62-62, new apartment buildings started to built in Kingsbridge (Nathan Hale, Tibbett Towers), not to mention those in Riverdale, that had terraces and built-in air conditioning. If there was ANYTHING I was jealous of, it was people who had those terraces! To me, it was a status symbol--a symbol of status we didn't have.

Years later, when we moved to Co-op City, we GOT a terrace--and it was a terrible letdown. My father just used it to store our bicycles and some old tires from his car!

Anyone else feel "terrace envy?"
