Mountains of jagged boulders, desolate piles of bricks made a mess of peaceful Bronx life. The big lot where we played and sleighed was gone. You couldn't cross the street to the stores, friends or to school anymore. "When you operate in an overbuilt metropolis you have to hack your way through with a meat-axe", Robert Moses.
