For displaced, misplaced, and nostalgic ex-Bronxites

My mom only had a ninth grade education but she could converse with people in a few different languages. She spoke Italian, Yugoslavian, Spanish and Yiddish. Are Yiddish and Hebrew the same or is Yiddish a separate dialect. Thanx in advance for a response.
