Too young to remember the demolition of any buildings, the only reference I would have to that would be a couple of episodes of Car 54. Back in those days we lived on Fulton Ave about 3 blocks south of The CBX. My father was still alive and he would take me on a walk over too I believe Arthur Ave and from there we would watch the construction of Te CBX. I remember the Third Ave El being raised to allow for truck traffic. I can't really speak to the fact that many people sight the construction of The Cross Bronx as the beginning of the end of The Bronx. I can judge from the traffic conditions on that short stretch of road that it wasn't planned well enough. Maybe it should have been 10 lanes six express and 4 local. I don't know I am not Robert Moses. Robert Moses gets a lot of grief from a lot of people after the fact. In reality the Throgs Neck Bridge, Whitestone Bridge and the GW Bridge were planned a long time ago. It was only a matter of time before they linked these bridges with the Interstate Highway system. By the way I am a Bronx resident and to attest to how much a loath The Cross Bronx, whenever I need to cross over the George Washington Bridge I usual take the Hutch north to the Cross County and then take the Saw Mill/Henry Hudson south into Manhattan and get on the GW from there. There have been many occasions when it's taken be well over an hour to get from the Bruckner Interchange to the GW. That's a lot of gas being wasted on a 5 or six mile stretch.
