Building The Cross Bronx Expressway

Don't know why but I started to think about my childhood and the impact the building of the Cross Bronx Expressway had on it. I can remember the blasting around the Grand Concourse and the whistle that would sound before the ground shook. Also remember playing in some of the empty apartment buildings and watching the cranes with those wrecking balls smashing perfectly good buildings to bits. At the time I wasn't old enough to have an opinion about what was going on but it sure was exciting.
I wonder if anyone else has childhood memories of the demolition caused by the construction of that road?
